Minimally Invasive Valve Surgery

Keyhole Valve Procedures

Surgeons at Pittburgh Cardiothoracic Associates are routinely applying minimally invasive approaches to valve surgery. Procedures that are performed include aortic valve repair and replacement, mitral valve repair and replacement, tricupid repair as well as closure of septal defects, septal myotomy/myectomy and aortic root procedures.

Operative incisions are generally 2 - 3" in length as opposed to the more traditional 9-12" long incision. Patients who have a minimally invasive approach have experienced generally shorter hospitalization time, less incisional discomfort and faster recovery.

Your surgeon will determine whether you are a candidate for minimally invasive approaches to valve surgery following preoperative testing.
