"Mini-Maze" for Atrial Fibrillation

This patient below has a problem shared by 2 million Americans. The upper chambers of the heart beat in a rapid, uncoordinated fashion. This can lead to fatigue, dizziness, palpitaitions, heart failure and stroke. The patient below is having endoscopic ablation of his arrythmia using microwave energy. The left atrium is pictured here (upper left-hand corner) beating in the rapid, uncoordinated fashion typical of atrial fibrillation (next - heart after microwave ablation with regular sinus rhythm).
